The mandatory Building Technology course assists architecture students in gaining an understanding of the technical elements involved in constructing a building.

This courses explores the integration of architectural design and structural engineering in the development of wide-span and high-rise buildings. It focuses on large-scale structures such as sports arenas, exhibition halls, airports, and skyscrapers. The course examines a range of structural systems including space frames, tensile membranes, cable nets for wide-span roofs, as well as core and outrigger systems, tube structures, and diagrids for tall buildings. Emphasis is also placed on the use of advanced materials such as high-performance concrete, composite systems, and smart facades that enhance both performance and aesthetics.

In addition to structural systems, the course covers essential aspects such as lateral load resistance, seismic design strategies, and vertical transportation systems including elevators and service cores. Sustainability and resilience are key themes, with discussions on how to design buildings that respond effectively to environmental conditions and long-term performance demands. Through a combination of lectures, case studies, simulations, and workshops, students will gain the technical knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to evaluate and design complex buildings that meet contemporary architectural and engineering challenges.
